Your Data, Plain English

MyBBQ Privacy Policy

This page explains what data MyBBQ collects, why we collect it, where it lives, and the controls you have over your information. We try to keep it short and honest.

Effective Date: May 1, 2026 Applies to the MyBBQ iOS app and mybbqapp.com

1. Overview

MyBBQ is a BBQ tracking app for iOS. We collect only the information needed to run the app, sign you in, keep public content safe, and process subscriptions. We do not sell your data, we do not run third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

"MyBBQ", "we", "us", and "our" refers to the developer of the MyBBQ app. "You" refers to the person using the app.

2. What We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your email address, password (stored only as a hashed value), first name, last name, and display name. First and last names are private and are used internally and for support; only your display name is shown publicly.

Cook data on your device

Most of what you log in MyBBQ stays on your device. Cooks, recipes, temperature logs, notes, lessons learned, and saved photos are stored in a local database on your iPhone. They are not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly share a cook to the public Shared Cooks feed.

Shared content

When you choose to share a finished cook, the cook details and any associated photos are uploaded to our backend so other MyBBQ users can see them. You can unshare a cook at any time, which removes it from public feeds.

Photos

Profile photos and shared cook photos are uploaded to our image storage so the app can display them across devices. Log photos attached to shared cooks are also uploaded; log photos on cooks you keep private remain on your device.

Subscription information

If you start a 7-day free trial or pay for a MyBBQ Premium subscription, the transaction is processed by Apple. We receive a non-personal token from RevenueCat (our subscription manager) telling us only whether your account currently has the "premium" entitlement. We do not see your credit card, Apple ID password, or full Apple account details.

Device and usage information

We collect a small amount of technical information needed to operate the app, such as your iOS version, app version, and crash diagnostics, plus basic request logs (timestamps, request paths) on our backend. We do not use third- party analytics, advertising SDKs, or cross-app tracking.

Location and weather

If you grant location permission, MyBBQ uses your approximate location to attach local weather to your cook log. Weather and location are visible only to you on your own cook log, are never shown publicly, and are not included in shared cook posts or exported summaries.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the MyBBQ app.
  • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • To deliver shared cooks, follow relationships, and the Shared Cooks feed.
  • To process subscriptions and grant or revoke premium features.
  • To run automated and human moderation on profile photos and reported shared images.
  • To respond to support requests, moderation appeals, and account questions.
  • To diagnose crashes and improve the app.

We do not use your data for advertising, profile-based targeting, or sale to third parties.

4. Where Your Data Lives

MyBBQ relies on a small number of third-party services to run. Each only sees the slice of data it needs to do its job.

Supabase

Authentication, the application database, and image storage are hosted on Supabase. Your account record, shared cooks, follow graph, and uploaded images live there.

Apple

Apple processes all subscription payments and delivers the app through the App Store. We do not see your payment details. Apple's privacy practices are described at apple.com/legal/privacy.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat manages subscription state for us. It stores a per-device user identifier and Apple's receipt so we can verify whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat's privacy practices are described at revenuecat.com/privacy.

SightEngine

Profile photos and reported shared cook images are sent to SightEngine for automated content moderation. Images are scored against safety classes (adult, gore, hate, etc.) and the result is sent back to us. SightEngine's privacy practices are described at sightengine.com/privacy-policy.

Resend

Resend delivers transactional email such as signup confirmations and password resets. Resend's privacy practices are described at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

5. Photos & Moderation

Profile photos go through automated moderation before being approved. Shared cook images can be reported by other users; if an image receives multiple reports it is automatically hidden pending human moderator review.

If your photo is rejected by automated or manual review, you can appeal by emailing support@mybbqapp.com. See the Content & Community Guidelines for the full moderation process and appeal flow.

6. Subscriptions and Billing

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple through your Apple ID. You can view, change, pause, or cancel a subscription at any time in Settings โ†’ Apple ID โ†’ Subscriptions on your device. We do not have access to your payment instrument and cannot issue refunds; refund requests must go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Our backend only knows whether your account has an active "premium" entitlement, which is reported to us by RevenueCat after Apple confirms your subscription state.

7. Your Choices and Rights

Access and edit

You can update your display name, profile photo, and other profile details inside the app on the Edit Profile screen.

Email change

To change the email address tied to your account, email support@mybbqapp.com from your current email so we can verify the request.

Account deletion

You can permanently delete your account directly inside the app from Account โ†’ Settings โ†’ Danger Zone โ†’ Delete Account. After you confirm, we immediately and permanently remove your account record, profile, shared cooks, uploaded photos, recipes, follow relationships, and reactions. Local cook history stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app or uninstall.

If you are unable to access your account to perform an in-app deletion (for example, you have lost access to the email tied to your login), email support@mybbqapp.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we will assist you.

Account deletion does not cancel an active MyBBQ Premium subscription. Premium subscriptions are billed by Apple and continue until you cancel them in your Apple ID settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions).

Location

You can revoke MyBBQ's location permission at any time in iOS Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Location Services. Cooks created after the change will be saved without weather information.

Notifications

MyBBQ does not send push notifications in version 1.0. Email notifications are limited to transactional account messages.

8. Data Retention

  • Account records and your shared cooks are kept while your account is active.
  • Photos rejected by moderation may be retained for a limited audit window so we can review appeals, then deleted.
  • Local cook data lives on your device only and is removed when you delete the app or wipe the device.
  • Backend logs (timestamps and request paths) are retained for a short operational window.
  • If you delete your account, we remove your account record, shared cooks, follow graph, and uploaded images. Some moderation audit entries may be retained in anonymized form for safety record-keeping.

9. Children

MyBBQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please email support@mybbqapp.com and we will remove the account.

10. International Users

MyBBQ is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information is processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those of your country.

11. Security

We use industry-standard security practices, including TLS for data in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls on backend services. No system is perfectly secure; you are responsible for keeping your password and Apple ID safe.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as MyBBQ changes. When we make material updates, we will revise the Effective Date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.

13. Contact

For privacy questions, account deletion requests, or moderation appeals, email support@mybbqapp.com.

You can also return to the MyBBQ homepage to learn more about the app.
